Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine are highly effective at treating pain, migraines, digestive disorders and more systemic issues such as anxiety/depression, weight loss, and fertility. Dr. Gallen often augments her treatments using other modalities in Chinese medicine such as cupping therapy, electrical stimulation, trigger point, internal and external Chinese herbs, and moxabustion as wonderful adjunctive therapies to optimize

healing.

Dr. Gallen obtained her doctorate in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine
from the prestigious Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. She has
received the highest certification in Chinese herbology from NCCAOM®,
the national board overseeing the certification of acupuncturists in
the US. Dr. Gallen has had the pleasure of working at Columbia
University Medical Services treating students at the Morningside
campus with a broad range of issues ranging from orthopedic injuries
to anxiety. She has also worked at Mt. Sinai’s Integrative Oncology
Department providing acupuncture to treat the side effects of cancer
patients currently undergoing treatment. Dr. Gallen had the privilege
of treating pre- and post-surgical in-patients at Bronx Lebanon
Hospital. Her experience also includes the Veterans Administration
Neurology Department treating veterans for recalcitrant pain and post
traumatic stress disorder.

While her focus is predominantly on pain, especially hard-to-treat
pain, and stress/anxiety, Dr. Gallen is trained in facial cosmetic
acupuncture and enjoys bringing out one's beauty holistically from the
inside out.

Why Acupuncture?
Pain Relief

Our unique style of acupuncture is highly effective at treating chronic and acute musculoskeletal pain. Depending on the patient's condition, we use either or both distal and local acupuncture to vasodilate the targeted area as well as release the body's own natural painkillers. We believe it is important to also treat the psycho-emotional impact of your physical pain in every treatment.

Stress, Anxiety,
Depression, Fatigue

At New Step, we implement a holistic approach to stress, which can manifest in many different ways. We find the "root physiological cause" of your anxiety, depression, or fatigue. In Chinese Medicine, there can be multiple root causes, such as blood deficiency and/or imbalance of hot and cold in the body. We do an in-depth medical intake from an Eastern and Western perspective incorporating pulse and tongue diagnosis. When we determine the root cause, we can bring emotional harmony and wellbeing to the individual.

Weight Management

We have a special program at New Step to help patients address their weight. We do not focus on willpower for weight loss as we strongly believe that hormonal imbalances are what drives cravings. Instead, we gently guide the patient's body with acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and nutritional counseling to increase metabolism, reduce stress, flush out inflammation, and bring the body's hormones back into balance.

Women's Health and Fertility

At New Step, we believe that women should experience minimal to no PMS and minimal to no perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms. We work to regulate your hormones so that you do not suffer the physical and emotional disturbances from hormonal imbalances.

Our Fertility Program aims to bring you and your body to the healthiest state possible. We work with you to create a rich environment to grow a healthy fetus.

Migraines/Headaches

At New Step, our goal is to eliminate the debilitating effects of your migraines and headaches. We look for the root causes of your pain. Hormonal? Allergies? Improper blood flow? Stress? We are relentless in chasing down that pain so that you can get on with leading your best life.

Insomnia

Studies have demonstrated acupuncture to be effective for sleep disorders. Acupuncture lessens anxiety, stimulates melatonin production, induces sleep onset, and reduces sleep disruption and arousal during the night.

Smoking Cessation

New Step uses a unique program to help you stop smoking in 3 phases. The first phase strongly supports you to break the nicotine addiction. Similar to our Weight Loss Program, we do not rely on willpower to break a powerful addiction. Phase 2 and 3 are focused on building new healthy habits and sticking to them. We customize our Chinese Medicine approach for you in each phase to help you in every step of smoking cessation.

Testimonials

I had chronic back pain and sciatica for several years. I had tried physical therapy, chiropractic, and painkillers but nothing helped. I wanted to avoid surgery so decided to try acupuncture despite my fear of needles. Dr. Gallen was very patient and explained the whole process of acupuncture to me. She eliminated my sciatica and back pain after several weeks of treatments. I could not believe it! I would highly recommend Dr. Gallen to everyone who is searching to free their lives of pain. Amazing!
